However, recently MultiVersus revealed Stripe would be joining the roster from the classic Gremlins franchise, alongside Black Adam and possibly fellow Gremlin Gizmo. As the first Gremlins movie released back in 1984, this represents an effort to acknowledge the legacy of Warner Bros. properties for Player First Games. While leaks point to more current characters, Player First Games should consider bringing more classic movie characters out from the archives to give them a new lease of life.

Max Rockatansky From Mad Max (1971)
Mad Max started in 1971, and featured a protagonist who was significantly different to the character viewers might remember from the most recent Mad Max: Fury Road. Established as an antihero, Max was initially part of the Main Force Patrol in a dystopian Australia where civil order had broken down following oil shortages. While Max has evolved across the series, adding in such a radically different character to MultiVersus could help assure players that there will always be something for everyone, especially when Mad Max’s last underrated game released in 2015.
Willy Wonka From Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971)
With a captivating performance from the late Gene Wilder, Willy Wonka was brought to life in the early 1970s. Based on the work of Roald Dahl, the intrepid chocolatier-turned-inventor would bring a unique moveset to MultiVersus, with some inspiration from the movie’s events such as Fizzy Lifting Drinks or WonkaVision. The 2005 adaptation starring Johnny Depp or the upcoming 2023 Wonka prequel with Timothee Chalamet could further influence the character, or even provide alternative ideas for moves, map designs, or costumes.
Atreyu and Falkor From The NeverEnding Story (1984)
Many parts of The NeverEnding Story have made their way into popular culture, including The Neverending Story’s theme song appearing in Stranger Things. But characters such as Atreyu and Falkor are perhaps the movie’s most recognizable, especially when they take prominence in its promotional material. Atreyu would be an excellent alternative for a sword fighter akin to Arya Stark, but Falkor could provide Player First Games some interesting source material to work with. Moreover, the ominous threat that The Nothing could present for map design has equal potential.
The Goonies and Sloth From The Goonies (1985)
Despite a sequel to The Goonies sequel being teased decades later, the original movie remains a cult-classic. It centers a ragtag group of kids embarking on a quest to find the treasure of One-Eyed Willy so they can save their homes from foreclosure, all while fighting The Fratellis crime family. Though The Goonies doesn’t have one explicit lead character, possible additions could include any of the children within the group. However, Sloth’s unique characterization and brute strength could make him the better option for a fighter.

Audrey 2 From Little Shop of Horrors (1986)
Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horrors would be a perfect addition to MultiVersus thanks to its blend of camp and surreal horror. Both Gizmo from Gremlins and Audrey 2 came from Chinese shops with unusual needs, but while Gizmo must never eat after midnight, Audrey 2 needs human blood to survive, sparking the movie’s events as Audrey 2 eats and grows. With a moveset possibly similar to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Piranha Plant, Audrey 2 could help avoid the overuse of humanoid characters.
The Mask From The Mask (1994)
Popularized by Jim Carrey, The Mask was a loose adaptation of a Dark Horse Comics’ series of the same name. While Dark Horse Comics is currently seeing success with The Umbrella Academy, MultiVersus could bring The Mask into its roster as more of a classic addition. The wild, zany character would complement the game and could match Looney Tunes’ goofy combat style. Additionally, coming up with alternative cosmetic items and outfits should be very easy thanks to The Mask’s iconic appearance.
Austin Powers From Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
Austin Powers is like James Bond, a womanizing playboy-come-spy, only steeped in the 1960s with a groovy fashion sense and personality. Bringing this unique flair to MultiVersus could shake up the roster and provide something different for players. Though meant for a more adult audience due to its heavy use of innuendo, Austin Powers is arguably no less adult than Game of Thrones, which already has a representative in Arya Stark.
Besides these suggested characters, other leaks of potential characters indicate that Player First Games is going to consider other classic Warner Bros. like The Wicked Witch of the West or Beetlejuice coming to MultiVersus. Given the already growing list of characters rumored to be upcoming in MultiVersus, Player First Games will have plenty to work on as the game expands.
MultiVersus is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
