Gizmo’s appearance alone was not the only surprise for MultiVersus fans. It was also revealed that the new character would be coming to the game incredibly soon. Initially, he was set to join MultiVersus on Tuesday, September 6, but now it is expected he will become available on Thursday, September 8. Moreover, it was confirmed that Gizmo and Stripe would not be joining the game together as one character and that the two famed Gremlins will be joining MultiVersus as separate fighters, with Stripe joining later in Season 1.

With Gizmo’s release date fast approaching, MultiVersus’ Twitter account has revealed a breakdown of the new character, including his role and some of his moves. Gizmo joins the Support role in MultiVersus, which currently contains characters like Velma and Reindog. Despite their focus being on supporting their ally in the game, MultiVersus’ Support role can make for some devastating combinations. Bugs Bunny and Velma were seen as one of MultiVersus’ top-tier teams at EVO 2022, for example.
In terms of moves players will get when they pick Gizmo, the fuzzy Gremlin can fire his Hunter’s Bow, which is a charged ranged attack that applies the Ignite condition to enemies. Also, using his “Gizmo-a-go-go” ability, Gizmo can leap onto allies’ backs. Gameplay of this hasn’t been shown just yet, but one can imagine the ability could work similarly to Iron Giant’s Rage Mode in MultiVersus where the character can be piloted by his allies. It seems that in Gizmo’s leap, he will be able to alleviate some damage by jumping onto his allies’ back.
The final move revealed for Gizmo in MultiVersus is his “Song of the Mogwai,” which damages enemies around him while creating projectiles that hit opponents from afar. It seems that Gizmo will be focused on zoning out his enemies, something that some MultiVersus players may find irritating, depending on how strong Gizmo is upon release. If he’s anywhere near as frustrating as some found Bugs Bunny in MultiVersus, there will no doubt be nerfs in the Gremlin’s future.
MultiVersus is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
