Released in 1984, Gremlins has by now managed to attain the status of cult classic, so it’s no surprise that developer Player First Games has already added two characters from the series to the growing roster of fighters in MultiVersus. As of now, Stripe only has two skins, or variants, as the game calls them. First is his original look that is based off his appearance in the movies, and the second is his Combat variant that has him sporting a bandolier and camo pants, which is designed to pair with Gizmo’s similar skin of the same name.

One fan has taken the liberty of filling the void, creating some brilliant Stripe variants that could easily fit into the game, barring a few rights issues. Reddit user Bun_Boi posted a series of images featuring the villain decked out in a variety of different inventive outfits. Some skins are directly inspired by pop culture, but many are original creations dreamed up by the artist. Numbering nine in total, the collection features the Midnight Snack variant, which shows Stripe wearing what appears to be a Gizmo onesie; Sunbleached, a skeletal version of the character; and one skin that replaces the gremlin with a marionette puppet, simply called Lil’ Dummy.
A few of the creations dip into properties not owned by Warner Bros. So, as fun as they are, they won’t likely ever be seen in the game. One reimagines Stripe as a flying Monkey from The Wizard of Oz, and another is a reference to the Bokoblin monster from The Legend of Zelda series. Another, called Man Bat, is inspired by Batman. Seeing as Batman is owned by the right company, at least it has a better chance of seeing the light of day than the others.
At the end of the day, though, Bun_Boi’s artistic expression is all just in the name of good fun, not necessarily an actual desire to see the variants in-game. Over the past few years, gamers have seen a series of brawlers that have achieved only moderate success, especially under the shadow of the wildly popular Super Smash Bros series, but MultiVersus has managed to capture the attention of the fan community, inspiring all sorts of art and other creations.
Until developers catch up with the fan community surrounding MultiVersus, creators like Bun_Boi will fill the void. If players are lucky, one day they’ll get variants as inspired as the work seen here.
