However, it’s not often that you see the inverse of this leap from TV to tabletop, yet, with the newly announced Nemesis: Distress, it seems Ovid Works and Awaken Realms are looking to do just that. Taking the popular Nemesis board game, the two studios will be looking to convert the experience into a compelling first-person multiplayer horror video game, with the first trailer already appearing remarkably eerie.

Taking place from the point of view of a distressed soldier, the teaser begins with the character running through the claustrophobic hallways of a dark spaceship as he talks over the radio with his commanding officer. It soon becomes clear that he intends to go into the engine room, arguing with his commander who continues to tell his subordinate to escape the space ship through a set of nearby escape pods. Despite disagreeing with his commanding officer, the soldier runs to the escape pods, quickly realizing that they’re all locked. He turns, coming face to face with a terrifying alien creature and quickly meeting his tragic demise. The title card then fades into view as the soldier’s commanding officer seems to admit over the radio that he set up his subordinate to be eaten by the terrifying alien antagonist.
It’s undeniably an intriguing teaser for what Nemesis: Distress has to offer, with its ominous setting and creepy extraterrestrial monster definitely leaving quite the impression. The game will supposedly see multiple players tasked with various secret objectives that they’re meant to achieve throughout a single 40-minute campaign. Not only will they have to ensure their success by thwarting and outsmarting other players, but they’ll have to keep an eye out for the fearsome alien who also roams the craft’s corridors. As is obvious from the trailer, different players will have different agendas, and the fun of the game is learning who to trust and who to be wary of.
The video game adaptation currently has no release date, however, fans who want to engage with the upcoming game should know that Awaken Realms is holding a Kickstarter campaign for its expansion of the board game tomorrow. Among the pledge rewards is early access to the title, an opportunity to get a discount on the new game, and even a tier that includes a copy free of charge, so it’s definitely worth having a look at the company’s newest addition to the Nemesis set. The Kickstarter can be found here.
