Like Moon Knight and many of the other Disney Plus series, Ms. Marvel will focus on a new hero making their MCU debut, Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, a super-fan of the Avengers, particularly Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. As she tries to navigate through high school, she gains enhanced abilities that transform her into the hero Ms. Marvel.

While the series will see plenty of new faces, Kamala’s interaction with an organization that has ties with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man will see the return of one character. According to the official project profile for Ms. Marvel, Arian Moayed, who portrayed Agent P. Cleary of the Department of Damage Control in last year’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, is listed among the cast. While Moayed could be playing a new character, as happened when Gemma Chan suited up as Sersi in Eternals, an entirely different role from the one she played in Captain Marvel, it’s likely that he will still be reprising the role of Cleary

This is especially likely since previous set photos hint at the EDITH drones from Spider-Man: Far From Home - technology that forced the DODC to take action - factoring into the Ms. Marvel story. Whatever turns out to be the case, it’s exciting, depending on one’s preference, to see that the upcoming series will return to its format of likely intertwining with other MCU projects. As fans recall, the recent Moon Knight avoided MCU connections, for the most part.

Another exciting aspect of Ms. Marvel is its connection to The Marvels, the highly-anticipated sequel to Captain Marvel. With Vellani confirmed to return in the upcoming film along with other cast members from the series and knowing Ms. Marvel’s abilities will be different from the comics, it will be interesting to see how the creators go about telling the story and setting up Kamala’s first interaction with Danvers.

Created by Bisha K. Ali (Loki), Ms. Marvel also stars Matt Lintz as Bruno Carrelli, Kamala’s best friend, Zenobia Shroff as Muneeba Khan, Kamala’s mother, Mohan Kapur as Yusuf Khan, Kamala’s father, Laith Nakli as Sheikh Abdullah, Kamala’s religious mentor, and Aramis Knight as Kareem/Red Dagger, a vigilante who wears a red bandana and wields throwing knives. Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will serve as directors.

Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney Plus on June 8, 2022.
