MoviePass will be relaunching in the form of an app—but it’s by invite-only, so you’ll have to hurry up and join the waitlist as soon as it opens. This article will tell you where and how to join. Let’s get started.
MoviePass Is Back
After being away for three years, MoviePass returns on September 5, 2022. You can access the service exclusively through the new invite-only MoviePass Beta App. But, at the time of writing, the app isn’t live yet—you’ll have to join the waitlist to use it when it goes live.
MoviePass officially shut down for all customers in 2019. Fortunately, Moviepass announced its return during a live-streamed event in February 2022. In the announcement, MoviePass CEO Stacey Spikes shared that the new-and-improved service would:
Allow you to “bring a friend to the movies. " Use a credit-based system. Replace its ticket system with Web3 technology. Give you options for tiered plans (instead of the standard $10 plan that existed before). Allow theater partners to send you direct offers if you haven’t been to their theaters for a while (for example, cheaper tickets). Customized pre-show ads like in movie theaters.
Since Moviepass made its announcement at the beginning of 2022, we’ll have to wait to see whether MoviePass will include all of these features at launch o not. However, we do know that the tiers will cost $10, $20, and $30.
How to Snag an Invite to the New MoviePass App
The waitlist to join the app opens on Thursday, August 25, 2022, on the MoviePass website. To add your name to the waitlist, camp on the website on the day and sign up when it opens (when the timer gets to 00:00:00:00). The list will only be open for five days and close on August 29, 2022.
Space is limited, and the waitlist works on a first-come, first-served basis, so ensure you’re one of the first people to sign up. If you’re unable to join the list on time, you’ll have to hope that a friend sends you an invitation if they become a member, as that’s the only way you’ll be able to access the service.
That’s because everyone who becomes a MoviePass member gets 10 invites to send to their friends. Sounds familiar? Clubhouse started out as an invite-only app, too, which made it exclusive and set it apart from others. At the time of writing, MoviePass hadn’t shared whether the app would always be accessible by invite-only.
Some perks of being a MoviePass member include having priority access. Returning members also get complimentary credits added to their accounts when they join. Please note that MoviePass will not be launched to all US markets simultaneously. As noted on the MoviePass website:
